Courses

Turing House Sixth Form will provide A level and Level 3 BTEC equivalent courses, enabling options and pathways for students to go on to Higher Education or high quality alternatives. We will do this as part of the local post-16 partnership, so some courses might be provided by other schools and colleges and we may provide specialist courses to students from other schools too.

Our minimum entry requirements are:

  • For A-Levels: Five GCSE Grades 9-5, including English and Maths, and more specific requirements for some courses, as detailed below;
  • For BTECS: Five GCSE Grades 9-4.

For some students, who are not immediately ready for Level 3 education, we will offer guidance on appropriate pathways to enable them to progress to our Sixth Form or to other local Further Education partners. This may include the option to retake GCSE English and Mathematics.

Courses

Requires a minimum of Grade 6 in GCSE Art and a passion for Art, Craft and Design.  As an alternative to the A Level we may offer Level 3 BTEC Art if there is enough student interest.
Requires a minimum of Grade 6 in GCSE Biology or two Grade 6s in GCSE Trilogy (combined science). There is also significant mathematical content in A-Level Biology, so a Grade 6 or above in Mathematics would be beneficial. Students will be offered GCSE to A-Level bridging materials to help prepare them for the higher standard of study required.
Requires Grade 6 in GCSE Chemistry or two Grade 6s in GCSE Trilogy (combined science). There is also significant mathematical content in A-Level Chemistry so a Grade 6 or above in Mathematics would be beneficial. Students will be offered GCSE to A-Level bridging materials to help prepare them for the higher standard of study required.
Requires a Grade 6 in GCSE Maths or Grade 5 in GCSE Computer Science. If you haven’t taken GCSE Computer Science it is helpful to have had some practical coding experience.  As an alternative to the A Level we may offer Level 3 BTEC Computing if there is enough student interest.
Requires a Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics.
Requires a Grade 6 in both GCSE English Language and English Literature, as well as a genuine passion for the written word.
Requires a Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics.
Requires a Grade 8 in GCSE Mathematics and A-Level Mathematics must be taken too.
Requires a Grade 6 in GCSE Geography and Grade 5 in Mathematics.
Requires a Grade 6 in GCSE History as well as a Grade 5 in English Language, and a genuine interest in History and the world around you.
Requires a Grade 6 in GCSE Mathematics.
Requires a Grade 5 in GCSE English Language.
Requires Grade 6 in GCSE Music, Grade 4/5 in Music Theory, and instrumental skill of Grade 6.
Requires Grade 6 in GCSE Religious Studies or Grade 5 in English Language if Religious Studies has not been taken.
Requires Grade 6 in GCSE Physics or two Grades 6 in GCSE Trilogy (combined science). There is also substantial mathematical content in A-Level Physics so a Grade 6 or above in Mathematics is essential. It is recommended that students wishing to study Physics consider taking A-Level Mathematics.
Requires Grade 6 in GCSE English Language and Mathematics.
Requires Grade 6 in GCSE Spanish, as well as a love of languages, other cultures and the diversity of the World.
Requires Grade 6 in GCSE Design and Technology or GCSE Art and Design.
Requires Grade 6 in GCSE Art and a passion for Art and Design. You do not need a GCSE in Textiles to study this, but knowledge of the sewing machine would be useful.
Requires Grade 6 in GCSE Drama and Grade 5 GCSE English Literature as well as a level of confidence to perform and a passion for performing, watching and creating theatre.
Students can apply to study this additional qualification and is particularly recommended for students who are thinking of applying to university courses with highly competitive entry requirements.
